Hawker Demon first public display flight

Hawker Demon G-BTVE (K8203) Date1937
made its first flight after an 18 year restoration on 23rd June 2009. Piloted by Stuart Goldspink the maiden flight lasted 20 minutes. The Demon owned by Demon Displays Ltd and restored by Skysort Engineering Ltd in the UK is painted in the colours of 64 Squadron RAF.

K8203 is one of a batch of 37 built by Boulton Paul Aircraft Ltd of Wolverhampton in 1937. It was taken on charge by the RAF on 27th October 1937 and initially assigned to No 64 Squadron at RAF Church Fenton. It was later transferred to No 9 Maintenance Unit at RAF Cosford and then to No 9 Air Observers School (later renamed No 9 Bombing & Gunnery School) at RAF Penrhos. K8203 was struck off charge on 28th September 1940 but was then pensioned off as a ground training aid at No 1 Service Flying Training School at RAF Netheravon: its history then becomes more tenuous, but we understand that the aircraft was a finally disposed of to No 413 (Aldershot) Squadron of the Air Training Corps, probably during 1943.

Acquired by Demon Displays from Guy Black in 1991, work commenced soon after. During the extensive restoration every component has been apart and many items have had to be made. The Kestrel V engine was overhauled by Vintage Engine Technology.

It is the only flying Hawker Demon in the world.
